Atlas: DIY is an incubator of education, empowerment and community for undocumented youth and their allies.
We accomplish this by:
1) Collaborating with young people to provide direct services in legal, educational, career and life skills realms.
2) Developing young people's individual strengths and encouraging them to become community agents through a cooperative model.
3) Constructing an online hub of legal information and self-advocacy tools that youth across the united states can easily access and understand
Our headquarters in Brooklyn serve as a place where immigrant youth may come and enjoy a wide variety of services they need to not just survive but thrive in the world. Our national online resources provide a lifeline for those without access to quality legal representation or who want to become their own active agents in their lives. DIY stands for both "Do It Yourself" and "Developing Immigrant Youth". You will find that we love acronyms!
But Atlas is more than that; Atlas is a place where immigrant youth may go to alleviate the stress that builds up inevitably in their lives. We are a safe space, a friendly face, and a community in which young people empower themselves.
Atlas is truly about YOUTH empowerment, you decide what you need and Atlas helps you get there. As a cooperative, (more on that here) every youth at Atlas helps run the center, from cooking to teaching Spanish to running our reception desk, we need YOU to help us become a reality. Come join our community and make the world better for yourself, your community, and your planet.
